Our mail server can be configured to add something that
looks like "*****SPAM*****" to the subject line of some
email addresses the server believes to be junk mail.
If you do not currently have this enabled and would like to
enable it go here to turn it on.
If you would like these messages to be sorted into a
different folder, this tutorial is just what you have been looking
for. You may wish to print this document before proceding for
ease of use.
1) Start outlook express.
2) Create a new folder by right clicking on Local Folders in the
Outlook Express Folders tab and choosing New Folder.
3) Create a folder suspected junk email should go. Simply
type the folder name in and press OK.
4) You should now see the new folder in the view.
5) Click on the tools menu, move the cursor to Message Rules, and
click on Mail.
6) You will see many check box options. Check the options Where the Subject line contains specific
words, and Move it to the
specified folder. You now should look at the Rule
Description and click the hyperlink that says contains specific words.
7) Type *spam* in the
box, and press the Add button.
8) Press OK.
9) The Rule Description should now look slightly different.
Instead of saying contains specific
words, it now says contains
*spam*. You still need to specify what the "specified
folder". Click on the hyperlink that says specified.
10) Select the junk email folder that you created earlier and
press OK. If you never created that folder, you may do so now by
pressing the New folder button and following the prompts.
11) After you clicked OK at the last dialog, you should be
here. Change the name of the rule from New Mail Rule #1 to
Fire2Wire Spam Filtering. Then press OK.
12) You should now see the new message rule you just made in the
Message Rules dialog box. If you have email in your inbox labeled
******SPAM****** before you created the filter using this tutorial, you
may click the Apply Now button to force a sort. After you press
OK at this dialog, all future email with the ****SPAM**** label will be
redirected to the new folder.
